I fell in love with Venice the first time I watched a movie called “Summer Madness” starring Katharine Hepburn. At one point she actually falls into a canal! I promised myself I would one day visit Venice. On my first visit I was in a foul mood and arguing with my family after being unceremoniously deposited at a grubby little quay in the middle of a maze of alleyways. Until I shot out of one such alleyway into the huge St Marks Square and was faced with the awesome sight of the Basillica. I fell completely in love. Since that first visit I have returned on numerous occasions.
