Seat Cover Saga

As stated in the previous Campervan Chronicles blog we now had the fabric for the seat covers. Although, after watching a YouTube video of several methods and plumping for the one he thought would be the easiest, he decided we hadn’t bought enough of the fabric so it was back to Dunelm for a further few metres. Which has been lying around in the study since we bought it due to Christmas, followed by an attack of the winter blues and lack of motivation. Long enough for me to have used it as a background to some photos, which you might notice on the header for my photoblog.

Finally, a couple of weeks ago; bored with nothing to do and having watched his fill of repeats on daytime TV; Paul decided to get on with making the seat covers. After dragging in the foam cushions from the garage he started to plan out his patterns, carefully marking them out on the fabric. Our old sewing machine was lugged downstairs and the rattle and clunk could be heard throughout the house as he made the first cover. He called me through to have a look and I must say, it looked pretty good, better than I could have done. The second and third covers were made in no time at all now he knew what to do. We duly went out to the van, put them in place and admired his handywork.

At this point he hit a wee bit of a snag. Despite buying the extra fabric he still had’t got enough to finish the seat backs. And now we were into our third lockdown so no trips to Dunelm. Except we could if we did click and collect. He was up and out at the crack of sparrows having been online and ordered before he was even out of bed. And it had been reduced in the sale! Typical! Back home he set to, finishing the seat backs in a flash. Before long I was summoned to the van to check out the full effect. It is all slowly coming together and I can’t wait to try it all out. All we need now are the curtains.
